Veratrum
maackii var. japonicum is a perennial plant that thrives in
forests or damp grasslands in mountainous regions. It typically
grows to a height of 50-100 cm and features withered leaf sheaths at
the base. The lower part of the plant is adorned with oblong-shaped
leaves, measuring 20-30 cm in length and 5-10 cm in width. These
leaves are smooth, without hairs, and their bases embrace the stems
in a sheath-like manner. At the top of the stems, slender panicles
emerge, showcasing numerous dark purplish-brown flowers. Female
flowers are located on the lower parts of the panicle, while
bisexual flowers are on the upper sections. |
