Viola hondoens
inhabits a semi-shady portion of a forested grassland and its
fringe, having small 2-3cm across roundish leaves in the spring when
most plants are unfurling new ones; in the summer, they measure more
than 5cm across. Stems creep out on the floor and make new growths
at the ends. V. hondoens flowers in March, sometimes in
February, and is one of the earliest bloomers among Viola species
growing wild in this part of the country. Bloom time: March-April. |
