Viola mirabilis var. subglabra
is a perennial viola species inhabiting
forests in volcanic ash or limestone areas. Stems exist not in bloom
time but, after flowering, they grow up to make stems, and each
bears two opposite leaves and sets cleistogamous flowers at the leaf
axils. Radical leaves are concentric, 2-4cm in length. Flowers:
petals measure 1.2-1.5cm in length; side petals have hairs; they end
without seeds. It is only the cleistogamous flowers that make seeds.
Bloom time: April-May. |
