Viola rostrata,
a perennial herb inhabiting edges/fringes of lowland forests, is
peculiar because it makes a long spur, 1.5-2.5cm long, much longer
than any other species in the same genus. The long, curved staffs
characterize this species. The flowers, generally light red-purple,
measure approximately 1.5cm in diameter, feeling as if they have
been squashed from the front. Bloom time: April-May. |
