Wasabia japonica,
a perennial that inhabits clear waters in valleys in mountainous
regions, grows to 20-40cm in height. Radical leaves have long
petioles, blades measure 6-12cm in diameter, orbicular, with bases
cordate, wavy serrations on margins, surface glossy, and pass the
winter. Short racemes give 4-petaled white flowers with leaf-like
bracts at the small grounds of peduncles. The petals are in the
shape of an oblanceolate, about 1cm across, with bases like nails.
Stamens are 6 in number and anthers yellow. Bloom time: March-May. |
