Weigela hortensis
is a small tree with gray-brown bark, found in sunny, mountainous
regions. It branches well from its lower parts, becoming bushy, and
grows to approximately 5 meters in height. Leaves are of opposite
phyllotaxis, blades are 4-10cm long, 2-6cm wide, in an oval-oblong
shape, with sharp tips, bases circular to broadly cuneate, and
delicate serrations on margins, and with petioles of 3-10mm in
length. Branch tips or axils on the upper parts produce 2-3 pink-red
to red flowers; the corollas measure 2.5-3.5cm long, are
funnel-shaped, and have cleft ends. Ovaries, 5-10mm long, positioned
beneath calyxes, are slender and cylindrical; thus, they look like
peduncles. Bloom time: May-June. |
