Wisteria floribunda,
a deciduous tree liana with gray-brown barks, is found on forest
edges or in bright forests, reaching the tree crown by coiling
itself around the tree. The phyllotaxis is alternate; the leaves
measure 20-30cm long, of an imparipinnate compound leaf with 5-9
pairs of leaflets; the leaflets are 4-10cm long long-oblong or
narrow oval, and the margins are entire. 20-100cm long racemes droop
down from the branch tips with many 1.5-2cm long purple
butterfly-like flowers. Fruit (legume), 10-20cm long, with dense
velvety short hairs, twist to split open in two as they mature to
become dry and flick off the seeds about 1.2cm across, flat,
circular, brown, and glossy. Bloom time: May. |
