Youngia
japonica is an annual or biennial herb that is commonly
found on roadsides, in parks, or on the corners of gardens. The
whole plant is soft and hairy, and cutting stems or leaves
causes white milk to discharge. Radical leaves arrange
themselves in rosettes, 8- 25 cm long, 1.7- 6 cm wide, and
pinnately deeply cleft into lobes. The terminal one is
triangular-ovate with round tips. On-stem leaves are relatively
pointed at the lower parts, while upper-part leaves are fewer in
number and smaller. Stem tips are 7-8 mm in diameter, with
yellow flower heads in a corymb form. Bloom time: May-October.
