Chengiopanax
sciadophylloides, a 5-20m in height deciduous tree, inhabits
forests in mountainous regions, with gray-white bark and sparse
oblong lenticels. Leaves are palmately compound, with long, 8-30cm,
peduncles that are longer than the blades. The leaflets, 5 in
number, are obovate-like oblong; the central ones are the largest,
10-20cm long and 4-9cm wide, the tips shortly pointed, the basal
parts wedge-shaped, and the margins equipped with prickly
serrations. The ends of the current branches bear umbels in which
many small, yellow-green flowers bloom; the petals are five, 1.5mm
long, oblong-ovate in shape, and bend backward. Sap fruit is 4-5mm
in diameter, moderately flat, and spherical. Bloom time:
