Galium gracilens,
a perennial that occurs on sunny banks or hillocks, has slender
stems with four ridges; the stems branch at their lower parts,
extend diagonally upward, and grow to 20-40cm long. Leaves are in a
whirl of four, each measuring 0.4-1.2cm long, about 2mm wide, the
tips being pointed, in the shape of a narrow lanceolate or narrow
long-oblong, with white hairs on the margins or backside midribs.
The stem tips and/or axils emerge as delicate inflorescences that
bear about 1mm across small pale green flowers. Bloom time:
May-June. |
