Euryale ferox is an annual aquatic herbaceous plant in
the Nymphaeaceae family. It extends petioles from rhizomes in the
bottom of the water and spreads gigantic leaves on the water's
surface in the summertime. The leaves have distinctive irregular
waves borne on the characters, and the prickles are unusually rough.
The prickles are especially prominent on sepals. Purple flowers, 4cm
in diameter, bloom in summer on the water upwards; buds often
penetrate the leaves to flower on them. Bloom time: August-October. |
