Euryale ferox is
an annual, aquatic herbaceous plant in Nymphaeaceae,
extending petioles from rhizomes in the bottom of the water and
spreading gigantic leaves on the water's surface in the summertime.
With distinctive irregular waves borne on the characters, the leaves
have unusually rough prickles. The prickles are especially prominent
on sepals. Flowers, purple, 4cm in diameter, bloom in summer on the
water upwards; buds often penetrate the leaves to flower on them.
Bloom time: August-October. |
