Sambucus chinensis is a perennial plant found on riversides, fields, or mountains, growing to a height of 1-1.5 m. Leaves are big-sized, imparipinnate compound leaves, the opposite phyllotaxis, with 5-7 leaflets, 5-17cm long, in broad-lanceolate or oblong-ovate shape. Stem tips set massive, small flowers; the upper parts of the inflorescences are flat, with cup-like patches of secretory portions. Fruit, about 4mm in diameter, spherical, mature red. Bloom time: July-August.
