Trichosanthes kirilowii
var. japonica is a perennial vine that grows in thickets or
forest edges. Leaves are alternate; surfaces have short hairs,
dark green and glossy. Dioecious: Both male and female flowers open
in the evening and generally wither the following day. Male
inflorescences are 10-20cm long, and female flowers singly generate
themselves at axils. The flowers are white; corollas generally cut
themselves in five, and their margins divide into lacy segments and
grow 5-10cm in diameter. Sap fruit is 7-10cm long, spherical
orbicular-ovate; young ones are green and mature in yellow. Bloom
time: July-September. |
