Elaeagnus multiflora,
a deciduous shrub, occasionally being a tree, that grows to
2-4m in height, inhabits roadsides, spinneys, or wastelands in
coastal to hilly districts. Leaves are alternate; blades measuring
3-9cm long, 2-5cm wide, broad-oblong to -oval, with silver squamous
hairs on surfaces, and backsides also have dense silver squamous
hairs mingling in them with some red-brown squamous hairs. Leaf
axils hang 1-3 light-yellow flowers down; calyx tubes are
cylindrical, about 8mm long. Sepals are 4 in number, broad, oval,
and significantly extensive. Pseudocarps are 1.2-1.7cm in length,
broad-oval, and mature red in May-July. Bloom time: April-May. |
