Eurya emarginata,
an evergreen shrub or small tree with smooth,
light gray-brown bark, inhabits coastal areas, growing to 1-6m in
height. Leaves are alternate; side branches, which are
simultaneously distichous, are arranged in two vertical columns.
Blades measure 2-4cm long, 1-1.7cm wide, in the shape of an oblong
ovate, with tips round but somewhat dented, also with bases cuneate,
and also with margins shallowly serrated. Flowers are dioecious;
light yellow-green, 2-6 mm across, bell-shaped flowers are set in
bundles of 1-4 at the axils and bloom facing downward. Sap fruit,
spherical, 5mm across, mature black-purple in November-December.
