Miscanthus sacchariflorus is a king-sized perennial on
the water's edges that grows up to 2.5m in height, not making
stocks, unlike Miscanthus sinensis. Rhizomes extend long sideways
and often form big colonies. Leaves are 50-80cm long and 1-3cm wide,
and the lower parts have gone in the flowering time. Inflorescences
are 50-80cm long, more significant than M. sinensis, and branches
emerge more densely. Spikelets measure 5-6mm long, with dense 2-4
times longer silvery white hairs at the bases. Bloom time: September-October. |
