Scopolia japonica
is a
highly toxic perennial herb occurring on damp riversides or in the
shade of a tree, growing to 30-60cm in height; the whole is hairless
and feels soft. Leaves are of alternate phyllotaxis, 6-18cm long,
2.5-6cm wide, in the shape of an oval to oblong, with no hairs on
both sides. Dark purple flowers droop from axils; corollas are about
2cm long, bell-shaped, with tips shallowly cleft in five, and
insides being light green-yellow. Capsules are spherical, about 1cm
in diameter. Bloom time: April-May. |
