Senecio vulgaris, an
annual European herb, grows wild in fields or roadsides. Stems and
leaves feel soft, and the former branching well to grow to
approximately 30cm tall. Leaves are of alternate phyllotaxis,
inordinately and pinnately cleft. Flower heads are yellow and
usually comprise tubular flowers only; ligulate flowers are rare.
Involucres are 0.8-1cm long and tubular, with bractlets at the
bases. Pappuses are white. Bloom time: January-December. |
