Hepatica
nobilis var. japonica f. variegata is
a perennial herb inhabiting fields and forests in mountainous
regions, its slender rhizomes crawling on the ground or rocks.
Flower stalks measure 10-15cm, and leaves are radical at the bases
of the plants with long petioles. Blades are shallowly three-lobed;
bases heart-shaped, tips not pointed generally, not glossy, and
margins are entire. Flowers singly attach on stem tops,1-1.5cm in
diameter. Petaloid sepals, 6-10 in number, are linear-lanceolate to
long-oblong, and the color is significantly variable from white,
light red-purple, red-purple, to blue-purple. Beneath the sepals,
there are three on-stem leaves as if they were sepals. Bloom time:
March-April. |
