Physalis angulata, an
annual herb originating in tropical America, has a ridged stem that
grows 20-30cm tall. Leaves are alternate, 3-7cm long, 2-5cm wide,
broad oval, with tips pointed, wavy serrations on margins. Axils
emerge as peduncles, set around 8mm-in-diameter single light yellow
calyciform flowers. Calyxes are short and tubular and shallowly
cleft in five. Sap fruit is spherical, about 1cm across, and covers
itself with a calyx that has significantly grown after the flower.
Bloom time: August-October. |
