Physalis angulata,
an annual herb introduced from tropical America, has a ridged stem
that grows 20-30cm tall. Leaves are alternate, 3-7cm long and 2-5cm
wide, broad-oval in shape, with pointed tips and wavy serrations on
the margins. Axils bear peduncles, set around 8 mm in diameter, with
single, light yellow, calyciform flowers. Calyxes are short,
tubular, and shallowly cleft in five. Sap fruit is spherical, about
1cm across, and is covered with a calyx that has significantly grown
after the flower. Bloom time: August-October. |
