Ardisia crispa,
a small evergreen shrub in evergreen forests, grows to 20-70cm
in height, generally not branching. Leaves are of alternate
phyllotaxis; blades measure 8-20cm long, 1.5-4cm wide, narrow oval
to lanceolate-shaped, with pointed tips, obtuse, wavy serrations on
margins, surfaces emerald green and glossy, and both surfaces with
no hairs. Axils set about ten, approximately 7-8mm across white
flowers. Peduncles, 4-7cm long, extend diagonally upward, corollas
deeply cut themselves into five, and the lobes bend backward with
glandular dots outside. Drupes are 6-7mm in diameter, spherical,
mature in red in about November, and remaining until around April.
