Fritillaria japonica
is a perennial herb inhabiting deciduous forests or edges in
mountainous regions. Stems grow to 10-30cm in height, and leaves are
opposite at lower parts and in whorls of three at upper parts -
blades are in the shape of a lanceolate to broadly lanceolate,
2.5-10cm in length. Stem tops bear single flower buds and bloom
facing downwards; perianth lobes, with many purple-brown dots on
them, are long-oblong-shaped, 15-25cm in diameter, bend at the
nectary positions towards the inside, and the tips pointed. Anthers
are white. Bloom time: March-April. |
