Rhododendron semibarbatum is a deciduous shrub growing
to 1-2m in height, inhabiting forests in mountainous regions with
long glandular hairs on young branches. Leaves are of alternate
phyllotaxis; all leaves gather at branch tops, the blades 3-7cm, in
length 1.5-2.5cm in width, in the shape of an oblong or narrow
oblong, with obtuse serrations and vellus hair on margins. Flowers,
white, come out after the development of the leaves; corollas
measure 2cm in diameter, in the shape of a dish, cleft in 5, and the
upper lobes have dark red-purple dots. Bloom time: June-July. |
