Silene gallica var. gallica, an approximately 50cm
tall European annual, grows wild on dry riverbeds or roadsides, with
long- and glandular- hairs throughout. Stems branch well, and the
lower parts somewhat crawl on the ground. With no petioles, leaves
are 2-4cm long, 0.5-1cm wide, and oblong-shaped; the ones on
underparts are broadly spatulate at the ends, with margins entire
and somewhat undulated. One centimeter long, 5-petalled, white to
light red flowers set themselves on stem tops facing the same
direction. Bloom time: May-June. |
