Silene gallica var. gallica,
a European annual approximately 50cm tall, grows wild on dry
riverbeds or roadsides, characterized by long and glandular hairs
throughout. Stems branch well, and the lower parts of the plant
somewhat crawl along the ground. With no petioles, leaves are 2-4cm
long, 0.5-1cm wide, and oblong-shaped; the ones on the underparts
are broadly spatulate at the ends, with margins entire and somewhat
undulated. One centimeter long, 5-petalled, white to light red
flowers are set on the stem tops, facing the same direction. Bloom
time: May-June. |
