Allium macrostemon is
a perennial found in fields, roadsides, or banks. Its bulbs
are spherical, 1-2cm in diameter, enveloped with membranous
coats, and radical leaves emerge from which are linear,
25-30cm in length, in the shape of a cross-section of a
crescent. Flower stalks from the bulbs grow to 50-80cm tall,
with 2-4 leaves on the lower half and many light purple
flowers arranged in an umbel-like fashion. The
inflorescences sometimes bear propagules among the flowers.
Occasionally, however, they form only propagules. Bloom
time: May-June. |
