Saxifraga stolonifer,
a perennial herb generally inhabiting damp rocks, sends out
red runners from the bases and sets new plantlets at the terminals,
thus resulting in vast colonies. Leaves are radical with long
petioles, blades 3-6cm long, in the shape of kidney-circular, thick,
and soft, with the surfaces dark green and white macules, tinging
dark purple and white speckles on the backsides. Flower stalks
measure 20-50cm long, with glandular hairs, giving many white
flowers conically. Bloom time: May-June. |
